Advocate Farzana Sharmin (Putul) is a practicing lawyer at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh since 2012. Her legal career began in 2008 when she was enrolled as an Advocate in the District Court of Bangladesh. With an extensive background in law, governance, and political activism, she has played significant roles in both legal and socio-political spheres of Bangladesh.
She is currently a member of the Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, Bangladesh, and serves as an Independent Director of the Board of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO). She is also the Legal Advisor to the National University of Bangladesh.
Throughout her professional career, she has been actively involved in promoting justice, civil liberties, and democratic values. She has also been enlisted as an English-speaking lawyer on the British High Commission’s official list in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Advocate Sharmin holds dual undergraduate degrees in law from the University of Dhaka and the University of London. She further attained two postgraduate law degrees—an LL.M in International Law from the University of Dhaka and an LL.M in International Business Law from BPP University, London.
She has served as an Associate at Barrister Moudud Ahmed & Associates and is currently the Head of Chambers and Partner at RIGHTS Chambers, Dhaka.
Her contributions extend beyond the courtroom and into humanitarian work. She has provided free legal assistance to the underprivileged, supported emergency medical camps during the COVID-19 pandemic, and aided victims of political persecution, fire, and natural disasters.
